EFCC Chairman Threatens Resignation Unless Yahaya Bello Faces Prosecution....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
EFCC Chairman, Ola Olukoyede, has underscored his commitment to upholding justice by declaring his readiness to step down if former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello remains unprosecuted.
Addressing reporters on April 23 at the EFCC headquarters in Abuja, Olukoyede pledged that those impeding the apprehension of the ex-governor would face legal consequences.
Bello, who has been wanted by the EFCC since April 18 for an alleged financial misconduct amounting to N80 billion, has yet to attend scheduled court hearings.
Olukoyede disclosed that he personally contacted Bello, requesting his appearance before the commission to address the accusations. However, Bello rejected the summons, challenging the EFCC to produce evidence of the invitation.
Responding to Bello’s accusations of falsehood, Olukoyede maintained his stance, declaring, “If I fail to oversee the thorough investigation of Yahaya Bello, I will resign from my position.”
He highlighted previous cases involving governors, emphasizing that justice knows no political affiliation. Olukoyede revealed that Bello had transferred $720,000 from state funds to a currency exchange outlet to prepay his child’s schooling expenses before leaving office.
Expressing dismay at such actions in a financially struggling state like Kogi, Olukoyede vehemently rejected any insinuation of being influenced, stating, “Who could possibly manipulate me at this stage of my career?”
