Bwala Disagrees With EFCC Chair’s Statements Regarding Yahaya Bello....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Daniel Bwala, a legal expert and public commentator, has expressed disapproval of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) regarding its accusations against former Kogi State governor, Yahaya Bello.

Bwala, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party’s Presidential Campaign Committee during the 2023 general elections, criticized the EFCC’s approach, describing it as a “trial by media.” He condemned the recent press briefing by EFCC chairman, Olanipekun Olukoyede, asserting that it resembled a courtroom trial conducted in the public eye, with the media assuming the roles of judge and jury.

In an appearance on Arise TV’s morning show, Bwala likened the EFCC’s actions to a prosecutor presenting their opening statement in court but in a public forum, depriving Yahaya Bello of the opportunity to present his side. He questioned whether the EFCC’s intention was genuinely to prosecute or inadvertently provide an avenue for the accused to evade justice.

Bwala argued that the EFCC’s methods, including discussing case details in the media before presenting them in court, have contributed to the mishandling of numerous high-profile cases. He pointed out inconsistencies in the EFCC’s treatment of different individuals and accused the commission of prejudicing public opinion against Bello through media narratives rather than adhering to legal procedures.

Additionally, Bwala highlighted discrepancies in the EFCC’s adherence to legal protocols, accusing the commission of bypassing established procedures and attempting to secure convictions through media campaigns rather than in court. He emphasized the importance of upholding court orders, stating that Bello possessed a legal injunction preventing his arrest and prosecution, which the EFCC had yet to challenge or overturn in court.

In conclusion, Bwala urged the EFCC to abide by judicial rulings and refrain from conducting trials through the media, emphasizing that justice must be sought through proper legal channels rather than public spectacle.
