The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Abbas Tajudeen, has praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for greenlighting the inaugural phase of the Consumer Credit Scheme. Earlier reports from Naija News indicated Tinubu’s approval to kickstart the Consumer Credit Scheme.

In a statement from Ajuri Ngelale, the Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Media and Publicity, it was highlighted that the scheme’s primary goal is to enhance Nigerians’ access to vital goods and services by facilitating pivotal purchases on credit, with flexible repayment options over time. Ngelale further elucidated that the initiative aims to invigorate economic activity and foster social mobility nationwide.

Furthermore, the presidential spokesperson disclosed that the scheme, to be managed by the Nigerian Consumer Credit Corporation (CREDICORP), seeks to ensure that every economically active Nigerian possesses a credible credit rating, thereby enhancing their access to consumer credit.

In response, Speaker Abbas, through his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Musa Abdullahi Krishi, expressed gratitude for the president’s dedication to enhancing Nigerians’ lives through policies and programs centered on the populace. He underscored that the Consumer Credit Scheme is poised to offer beneficiaries the chance to access credit for goods and services, with mutually agreed repayment terms.

This move echoes Speaker Abbas’ sentiments conveyed to Nigerians on October 1, 2023, where he articulated optimism for a prosperous Nigeria under the current administration.

Abbas hailed the president’s initiative, stating, “This commendable initiative by the president will likely enhance transparency, reduce corruption, and curtail wastage within the civil service, as employees gain access to credit for essential goods and services.” He added that the president’s action will “put more food on the tables of Nigerians and bring everlasting smiles to many faces.”

The approval garnered widespread acclaim among citizens, who anticipate more impactful and citizen-centric decisions from the administration, as noted by Abbas. He reiterated that this decision aligns with the government’s Renewed Hope Agenda and praised Nigerians for having a leader who prioritizes their welfare.
