President Bola Tinubu emphasized the imperative for critical reforms within Nigeria’s judiciary to effectively address systemic issues and ensure justice for all citizens. Speaking during the National Summit on Justice in Abuja, Tinubu, represented by Vice President Kashim Shetimma, underscored the need for the judiciary to embark on a comprehensive reform journey and be accountable to the populace.

Highlighting the urgency of policy innovation and legislative action, Tinubu urged for the establishment of a justice system that caters to the needs of both present and future generations. He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to impartiality and adherence to constitutional principles.

Tinubu urged collaboration among the executive, legislative, and judiciary branches to acknowledge challenges and devise solutions for Nigeria’s advancement. He called on the judiciary to align its activities with his administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda, emphasizing inclusivity, fairness, rule of law, and anti-corruption efforts.

The President outlined measures taken to reposition the judiciary, including increased funding in the Renewed Hope budget for 2024, appointment of a full complement of Supreme Court Justices, and approval for salary increments pending legislative action.

Despite progress, Tinubu stressed the need for a functional justice system to support Nigeria’s growing economy, safeguard human and political rights, and ensure security and justice for all citizens. He called for informed and coordinated responses from justice sector leaders, emphasizing performance and tangible impacts on reform efforts.

Ultimately, Tinubu emphasized that law and justice should aim to ensure public safety, economic development, peaceful coexistence, and the well-being of Nigerians.
