Ex-Military General Cautions Against Combining Special Forces with Regular Army....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Retired NSCDC Commandant Desmond Agu has issued a stern caution against advocating for the amalgamation of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) with the Nigeria Police Force (NPF), asserting that such a move could exacerbate the nation’s security woes.

Having served as a commandant across six states before retiring, Agu emphasized the necessity for the Federal Government to rebuff any attempts by individuals to push for this merger, asserting that proponents lack understanding of NSCDC’s specialized security mandate.

Highlighting the intricate nature of Nigeria’s security challenges, Agu stressed the imperative for a comprehensive approach and underscored NSCDC’s pivotal role in addressing these issues.

He expressed concern that merging NSCDC with the police would undermine its unique responsibilities, including safeguarding critical national infrastructure and overseeing private security operations.

Agu referenced the Federal Government’s endorsement of NSCDC’s distinct functions in the Orosonya Report white paper, advocating instead for reinforcing the corps to optimize its effectiveness as an autonomous entity.

In vehement opposition to the merger proposal, the former NSCDC chief asserted that such a step would only compound the nation’s security challenges.

He reiterated NSCDC’s constitutional mandate as a specialized entity tasked with tackling critical security issues affecting national economic interests, emphasizing its crucial role in protecting vital infrastructure like oil pipelines and electricity installations.

Agu cautioned that merging NSCDC with the police would blur its unique responsibilities and impede the ongoing economic recovery efforts. He urged proponents of the merger to abandon the idea, asserting that it would not serve the nation’s best interests.

Emphasizing NSCDC’s track record of professional service and its role in fostering public trust, Agu underscored the importance of providing adequate funding to enable the corps to fulfill its critical duties, rather than pursuing a merger that could undermine its effectiveness.
