The Delta State Ministry of Health elucidates the rationale behind its decision to reimburse unauthorized fees to students enrolled in state-owned colleges of nursing.

An amount totaling millions of naira had been collected from more than 162 nursing students, comprising 152 individuals from the College of Nursing Asaba spanning various academic years and 10 students from the College of Nursing Sapele.

Dr. Joseph Onojaeme, Delta State Commissioner for Health, disclosed during the reimbursement procedure at the College of Nursing Asaba that, following the students’ grievances, a meticulous inquiry uncovered several fees, among others, that lacked proper authorization.

He further conveyed Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s disapproval of these illicit levies, instructing their immediate cessation and the prompt repayment to the affected students.

Onojaeme emphasized that this initiative stemmed from the governor’s concern to prevent undue financial strain on parents and students, particularly amid the prevailing economic challenges exacerbated by the current inflationary trends in the country.
