Benue State Governor, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, has issued a stern warning to his predecessors, urging them to refrain from meddling in his administration’s affairs. Speaking to journalists upon his return from the USA on Friday in Makurdi, Governor Alia emphasized his commitment to preventing any distractions or destabilization efforts within his government.

“I cannot allow anyone, whether a former governor or civil servant, to disrupt the progress of Benue State,” declared Alia. “If you have served your term, you should step aside and allow the current administration to function. Criticisms are welcome, but they must be based on verified facts.”

Alia, who had been invited by the USA Peace Institute along with nine other Northern Nigerian governors to discuss solutions to insecurity, highlighted the importance of addressing the challenges faced by displaced persons in the region. He also emphasized his efforts to improve the state’s image during his recent trip abroad.

“In the past, Benue wasn’t even on the national radar. Now, it is becoming a model for other states to emulate,” stated Alia. “We are witnessing a return to agricultural activities in various parts of the state, thanks to relative peace in areas like Gwer West, Gwer East, Guma, and Makurdi.”

Furthermore, Alia urged residents to actively participate in maintaining security, emphasizing the importance of cooperation with law enforcement agencies. He warned against being swayed by individuals seeking to exploit them for nefarious purposes, urging vigilance and unity among the populace.

“Each person has a role to play in ensuring security,” Alia asserted. “We must not allow ourselves to be manipulated or coerced into betraying our communities. Let us work together with security forces to safeguard our land and people.”

The governor’s remarks underscored his administration’s determination to foster peace, security, and development in Benue State, while also signaling a firm stance against any attempts at interference or destabilization.
