The Delta State House of Assembly has taken disciplinary action against Matthew Omonade, the representative of Ughelli North I Constituency, by suspending him due to alleged serious misconduct.
Speaker Dennis Emomotimi Guwor announced the suspension order, which followed a motion raised on the house floor by Majority Leader Emeka Nwaobi of Aniocha North, and supported by Chief Whip Perkins Umukoro of Sapele. The motion gained unanimous approval from the House.
Omonade stands accused of deliberately and falsely distorting the proceedings of the House on May 8, 2024. Majority Leader Nwaobi emphasized that Omonade’s purported actions violated the standing orders and regulations of the House, justifying the need for his suspension.
The suspension, effective for 14 legislative days, requires Omonade to surrender all government property in his possession to the House management.
In compliance with the House of Assembly (Powers and Privileges) Law, Cap H6 Laws of Delta State, 2008, and the House’s Standing Orders, Omonade is obliged to vacate the House premises during the suspension period and return all government assets, including the official vehicle.
The Speaker instructed the Sergeant-at-Arms to escort Omonade out of the Assembly Chamber, formalizing the implementation of the suspension.
