The minister revealed this information in Abuja during the ongoing Ministerial Sectoral Update, commemorating the first anniversary of President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
“In our upcoming budget, we intend to establish a Renewed Hope City dedicated to providing affordable housing, specifically targeting the less privileged. This initiative is not aimed at catering to the elite,” he declared.
“We plan to develop infrastructure, construct, and allocate these residences to those in need. Our goal is to construct 10,000 homes for the less privileged,” he affirmed.
Furthermore, the minister urged the National Assembly to revisit legislation concerning vandalism in the FCT, arguing that the current minimal penalties outlined in existing laws fail to dissuade criminals from perpetuating their unlawful activities.
“Consider, for instance, the issue of streetlights along Abuja’s roads. You install them today, and by the next night, they’re gone. What’s the cause? They’ve been vandalized; the cables have been severed,” he explained.
“When individuals are apprehended and prosecuted, what consequences do they face upon conviction? A mere N10,000. Consequently, they persist in their actions,” he emphasized.
“We’ve appealed to the National Assembly to assist us by amending and toughening the laws to deter vandals from targeting our infrastructure,” he concluded.
