A Kaduna Chief Magistrates’ court witnessed the arraignment of Simon Francis, a teenager, on Thursday, accused of stealing two cartons of biscuits. According to the prosecutor, Insp Chidi Leo, the incident occurred on March 16 around 6:00 pm at a shopping mall in Sabon Tasha. Leo disclosed that Francis allegedly stole biscuits worth N8000 and passed them to a friend, unaware of being captured on CCTV. Upon exiting, a security guard apprehended Francis, while his companion fled, abandoning the stolen goods.
The prosecutor cited Section 217 of the Penal Code of Kaduna State, 2017, as the basis for the charge. Despite pleading not guilty, Magistrate Ibrahim Emmanuel granted Francis bail at ₦100,000 with one employed surety.
