Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State dismissed claims on Sunday that his predecessor, Ifeanyi Okowa, is dictating his administration. Speculations had circulated that Okowa was directing Oborevwori’s actions. However, speaking at the first-anniversary thanksgiving of his administration at Living Faith Church, Ibusa Road, Asaba, Oborevwori refuted these claims, stating, “I’m hearing many things. I want to make it clear that Okowa is not influencing my decisions. I acknowledge his wise counsel, which has helped me a lot.”
Oborevwori reiterated that his emergence as the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in 2023 and his subsequent victory at the polls were the work of God. Despite facing significant opposition and 38 legal challenges to his candidacy, his administration has transformed the state into a substantial construction site with a total of 317 projects.
“A few days from now, we shall commence the inauguration of some roads and other projects for the world to see what we have accomplished in the last year by the grace of God,” he said.
Reflecting on the past year, Oborevwori described it as one of trials and triumphs, tests and testimonies, and adversity and hope, expressing gratitude for God’s faithfulness. He also mentioned a recent car accident that his family survived, highlighting his gratitude for God’s protection. Oborevwori emphasized that 76 of the 317 road projects, spanning 171.49 km with 85.30 km of drainage, were initiated by his administration, transforming the state into a vast construction site.
