He identified two categories of touts operating within the airport premises, both of which contribute to a significant embarrassment for the nation. There are those situated inside the airports and others outside, with the former posing a greater risk due to their direct interaction with travelers. Keyamo emphasized the urgent need for intervention, noting that the touts inside the airports, some of whom masquerade in uniforms, exhibit behavior that undermines the country’s reputation.

Keyamo underscored the seriousness of the situation, highlighting instances where touts have been captured on social media engaging in disgraceful conduct. While acknowledging that the responsibility for addressing this issue extends beyond his ministry, Keyamo assured that collaborative efforts are underway with relevant agencies such as the Interior Ministry and the National Security Adviser.

Proposals for enhancing airport security include minimizing human contact by relocating certain agencies behind glass doors. Additionally, Keyamo stressed the importance of enlisting the support of armed security personnel to tackle the touts effectively, particularly those operating outside the airport premises.

In concluding his remarks, Keyamo reiterated the commitment to implementing comprehensive solutions to eradicate the menace of touting at Nigeria’s international airports. By coordinating efforts across multiple agencies and leveraging security reinforcements, the ministry aims to restore order and uphold the dignity of the nation’s air travel infrastructure
