Two members of a syndicate specializing in killing drivers of ride-hailing apps and selling their cars have been arrested by policemen in Lagos State.
Roqib Moshood and an alleged accomplice, Olawale Kolawole, have been apprehended, with ongoing efforts to arrest other fleeing gang members, including one identified as Yusuf Adeyemi.
Yusuf Adeyemi, alongside Roqib Moshood, allegedly killed a ride-hailing app driver named Oluwaseun Adeniran and dumped his corpse by the roadside before stealing his vehicle.
The suspects typically used innocent victims to initiate their criminal acts, according to a source. In one instance, 22-year-old Moshood, on April 12, enlisted the help of his neighbor’s son, Taofiq Sanni, to request the services of driver Adeniran, 43.
After accepting Sanni’s ride request, Adeniran drove Moshood and Adeyemi from the Ojodu area to a destination near the Fagbem Filling Station area, close to the Long Bridge end of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
During the journey, the suspects allegedly directed the driver to take a desolate road beside the Long Bridge under the pretext of picking up a friend. Moshood stated, “The incident happened around 9 pm, and we told the driver to pass through Fagbem to link the road beside the Long Bridge. We know the area is usually abandoned, and we convinced him by saying we were going there to pick up a friend.”
North Olmsted police Detective Sgt. Matt Beck stated during a news conference that Ellis and the victims had no prior acquaintance, labeling it a “random act of violence.” Ellen was taken into custody after obtaining a kitchen knife from a nearby store and following Wood and her son to the Giant Eagle parking lot, where she attacked them near their car. Wood, 38, survived with non-life-threatening injuries, while Julian, the 3-year-old boy, succumbed to stab wounds. North Olmsted Mayor Nicole Dailey Jones expressed her condolences, stating, “As a mother, I cannot even begin to fathom this sense of loss that this family is going through. The city and I all share in your loss.” Ellis was charged with aggravated murder, with additional charges pending.
