“This minor hitch is attributed to the removal of track fastening clips by vandals. However, the NRC Management remains resolute towards ensuring the safety of our valued passengers in the entire system,” Mahmood explained.
The incident occurred as a train traveling from Abuja to Kaduna derailed at Asha station, leaving numerous passengers stranded in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). Despite the disruption, all passengers were safely returned to Abuja, with their tickets remaining valid for a subsequent journey within two weeks.
The NRC Management expressed regret for the inconvenience caused and assured passengers of continued commitment to their safety. Operational adjustments were announced, with the cancellation of the first train from Kaduna (Rigasa) scheduled for 08:00 hours on Thursday, June 6, 2024, while other services remain unaffected.
While condemning the vandalism, the NRC reiterated its determination to prevent such incidents from happening again, emphasizing ongoing efforts to enhance security along the rail network.
