Ishaq Abdulraheem, Chairman of the Master Bakers and Caterers of Nigeria, has voiced concern over the drastic surge in the costs of baking essentials. READ FULL ARTICLE HERE
Speaking in an interview with Arise TV, Abdulraheem highlighted the exorbitant rise in prices, noting that a bag of flour, previously priced at less than N9,000, now commands a staggering N45,000. Additionally, he cited the soaring cost of a 50kg bag of sugar, which has escalated from N19,500 to N80,000.
“The need for us to down tools by the 27th of this month is simply because of inflation, things are getting out of control,” Abdulraheem expressed. “The prices of our commodities are getting higher and higher every day.”
He continued to outline the escalating costs across various baking ingredients, underscoring the challenges faced by bakers amidst the current economic climate.
“The preservative we use used to be N30,000, today it is N55,000 to N60,000 depending on the brand,” Abdulraheem lamented. “So, we downing tools is becoming necessary because the millers are not helping us, government is not helping us, we are stranded.”
