It was reported that the former head of the anti-corruption agency regained his freedom on Wednesday night.

To recall, Bawa was apprehended by the Department of State Services (DSS) on June 14, 2023, shortly after his suspension from the position of EFCC Chairman by President Bola Tinubu, who accused him of alleged misconduct in office.

During his detention, the security agency did not formally press any charges against him or specify the exact nature of his alleged transgressions.

In the meantime, on October 12, Tinubu appointed Olanipekun Olukoyede as the new EFCC Chairman.

Olukoyede’s appointment was confirmed by the Senate on October 18, 2023.
