He stated that an investigation into the complaints revealed the cause was a transition from the 2018/2019 tax rate to the new 2021/2022 tax rate, which impacted salary calculations. Otti emphasized that the government ensures salary deductions are accurately processed and questioned the feasibility of unauthorized deductions.
Additionally, Otti debunked claims of salary disparities among Local Government Areas, attributing any perceived differences to updated tax rates. He also noted that changes in policies related to overtime pay might be misunderstood as salary reductions. The government now only approves overtime when necessary.
On the issue of minimum wage, Otti revealed that a committee is reviewing the matter and awaiting further guidance from the Federal Government. He assured that adjustments to salaries, including those beyond the minimum wage, are being planned within the state’s budget constraints.
Otti also discussed the distribution of the Federal Government’s rice allocation, which has been given to the most impoverished members of society and the lowest-paid civil servants.
