A video circulating on social media shows Wike trying to calm an upset crowd, urging them to support the government despite the economic difficulties.

The video’s authenticity and the precise location in Abuja could not be independently verified by Naija News.

In the footage, Wike addresses the crowd, who continually interrupt him with chants of “We are hungry.”

“I’m begging you all,” Wike pleads, as the crowd’s outcry persists.

“Hunger has been an issue for some time. Our role is to support the government for its success. I understand your pain. It is a sacrifice for the country.”

He continues, “I know the president. Please be patient. Hope is returning. This hunger will lessen soon. I have faith in Tinubu’s government.”

Wike’s plea comes as preparations intensify for the nationwide protests scheduled from August 1-10, organized in response to rising living costs and economic difficulties facing many Nigerians.

Previously, Wike had warned against protests in Abuja, declaring the FCT “unavailable for protests.”

In reaction to the growing unrest, President Bola Tinubu has enlisted clerics, religious groups, and traditional leaders to persuade citizens to avoid participating in the demonstrations.

The administration faces increasing pressure to tackle the economic crisis that has led to soaring food prices and higher living costs nationwide.
