Professor Shuaibu Muhammad, the Returning Officer of the Independent National Electoral Commission, declared Suleiman, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), as the winner with 16,866 votes, defeating Khalid Abdulmalik-Ningi of the All Progressives Congress.

Abdulmalik-Ningi contested the results, leading to a case before the Governorship and State Assembly Election Petition Tribunal, which upheld Suleiman’s victory.

Unsatisfied, Abdulmalik-Ningi appealed to the Court of Appeal, resulting in a reversal of the tribunal’s decision and a directive for a rerun.

In response, Suleiman, through his spokesperson Abdul Burra, acknowledged the setback but urged his supporters to remain calm.

He accepted the court’s judgment with faith, considering it a minor political setback. Suleiman expressed confidence in winning the rerun, emphasizing his readiness and the continued support he enjoys in Ningi.

Despite the challenges, he viewed the rerun in his strongholds as a straightforward process, questioning the insistence of his opponents on prolonging the aftermath of their election defeat.
