Labour Party National Chairman, Julius Abure, successfully secured his reelection at a convention held in Nnewi, Anambra State, amidst tight security measures. The party also made significant announcements regarding its future leadership and electoral strategies.
During the convention, it was declared that the Labour Party would reserve its presidential ticket for the upcoming 2027 general election exclusively for Peter Obi, who served as its presidential candidate in the previous election cycle. Similarly, the party extended this privilege to Alex Otti, the Governor of Abia State.
However, the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), advocating for a change in LP leadership, dismissed the convention as invalid, refusing to acknowledge Abure’s reelection. Benson Upah, the spokesperson for NLC, denounced the event as illegal, labeling it as a mockery of democratic principles.
