ACF Reveals Alleged Scheme To Sabotage Northern Economy Amid Electricity ShortagesThe Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) has expressed concerns that the Federal Government may be intentionally allowing ongoing blackouts in northern Nigeria, exacerbating the region’s economic challenges. Amidst prolonged power outages attributed to the vandalism of electricity transmission lines, the ACF issued a statement calling for an urgent declaration of a state of emergency regarding the power crisis and the unequal distribution of electricity nationwide.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

“For over a week, large areas of northern states have faced continuous power outages, severely hindering economic and social activities and increasing public frustration,” the group stated.

The Forum raised alarms over comments from the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) suggesting that the outages might continue due to technical and security issues. They questioned why the northern region, which contributes significantly to the country’s electricity generation, receives such a minimal allocation in return. For instance, they noted that Lagos has eight power substations, while the entire northern region, home to over half of Nigeria’s population, has only three located in Jos, Kaduna, and Kano.

“This situation poses a clear threat to national security, and the silence from public officials indicates a troubling abdication of their responsibilities,” the ACF continued.

Rejecting claims that the crisis is a result of past mismanagement, ACF criticized the government’s reliance on banditry along power lines as an excuse for inaction. “It’s inconceivable that our well-funded security agencies cannot eliminate these bandits and secure power lines,” the group argued.

The power crisis has severely affected small and medium-sized businesses, from phone charging stations to food processors, many of which lack affordable energy alternatives. Homes and offices are left in oppressive conditions, with residents enduring sweltering days and dark nights.

The ACF condemned what it views as a lackluster response from government leaders, urging the Federal Government to treat the crisis as a national security issue. They also called for a fair distribution of power resources, highlighting the irony of the North being a major electricity provider while remaining in darkness.

“This unjust situation must be addressed immediately for the sake of national stability, fairness, and equity,” the ACF asserted, urging northern state governors and National Assembly members to advocate forcefully for action.
