Act Like A Leader, Stop Blaming Tinubu – Osita Okechukwu Fires At Atiku

Okechukwu made the appeal in a statement he personally signed while reacting to calls by the Southern Political Progressive Amalgamation Forum urging Atiku to carefully choose a southern running mate ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

The former Director-General of the Voice of Nigeria (VON) dismissed the group’s suggestion, arguing that similar pressure contributed to Atiku’s decision to abandon the zoning arrangement, a move he said plunged the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) into prolonged internal crisis.

He urged the former vice president to return to the principle of zoning, describing it as essential to strengthening Nigeria’s democracy and preserving political stability.

According to Okechukwu, Atiku had previously defended power rotation during the administration of former President Goodluck Jonathan and should remain committed to the arrangement, having benefited from it in the past.

He maintained that respecting the zoning convention would promote national unity, equity and peaceful political coexistence.

“It is never too late to make things right,” Okechukwu said.

“He should act like a leader and stop blaming President Tinubu with harsh words. Instead, he should use the months ahead to build a strong and credible opposition.”
