The incident reportedly occurred after the civilian allegedly overtook the military personnel’s vehicle. The victim, seen in visible pain, repeatedly asked, “How did I pass your car? Oh my God!” as the soldiers continued their assault.
In the 1-minute 57-second clip, the man’s female companion could be heard pleading from the passenger seat, “He is not feeling fine! He’s not feeling fine! Jesus, Jesus!” Her cries were ignored as one of the soldiers sarcastically responded, “He’s not feeling fine, that’s why he’s blind?” before continuing the assault.
The soldiers also turned their attention to the woman, attacking her for attempting to record the encounter on her phone. A soldier was heard demanding, “Give me the phone! Give me the phone!” as they forcibly seized the device.
When the assault subsided, the visibly shaken woman asked, “Oga, you see what you did to my eyes? Are you seeing?”
Army Leadership Responds
The disturbing footage has sparked outrage online, with citizens and rights groups calling for accountability. In response, the Acting Chief of Army Staff (COAS) has ordered an immediate investigation into the incident to identify and discipline those involved.
The Nigerian Army has reiterated its commitment to upholding professionalism and respecting the rights of civilians, assuring the public that the perpetrators will face the full weight of military justice.
This incident underscores ongoing concerns about abuse of power by security forces and has reignited calls for strict enforcement of human rights training within the armed forces.
