The Court of Appeal upheld an earlier ruling by the National Industrial Court, recognizing Alhaji Tajudeen Baruwa as the legitimate leader of the union. This decision followed accusations of controversy surrounding MC Oluomo’s initial emergence as president in an election held in Osogbo, Osun State, which was widely criticized for its legitimacy.

Baruwa had assumed office after a properly conducted election at the NURTW headquarters in Abuja. The Appeal Court dismissed MC Oluomo’s appeal, along with six of his allies, on the grounds of lack of merit and imposed a fine of ₦100,000 on the appellants.

In reaction to the ruling, MC Oluomo took to Instagram to share his defiant stance. Alongside photos of himself in his former capacity as NURTW president, he declared:

The Legal Battle and Reactions

The Appeal Court ruling was delivered by Justices Hamma Akawu Barka, Nnamdi Okwy Dimgba, and Asmau Ojuolape Akanbi, bringing closure to a contentious chapter in the NURTW’s leadership crisis. The respondents in the case, including Baruwa and other union leaders, reaffirmed their rightful leadership through the court’s decision.

Further controversy surrounds MC Oluomo’s ongoing claims of leadership. Southwest NURTW Zonal Chairman Olalekan Folorunsho (Lekan Salami) alleged that MC Oluomo had severed ties with the union in 2022, symbolized by tearing his NURTW identity card after a query from the union’s national leadership.

Despite the ruling, MC Oluomo’s defiant tone signals he’s not ready to fade quietly from the spotlight, further fueling speculation about his next steps in the transport union’s ongoing drama.

With this legal ruling, Alhaji Tajudeen Baruwa’s leadership stands unchallenged as the NURTW’s rightful president, marking a turning point in the organization’s efforts to restore order and legitimacy.
