Nkechi said she walked away from the project, even though many other young actresses hurriedly accepted the role.

Not long after leaving the location, she met veteran filmmaker Emeka Duru, who expressed interest in working with her. That encounter led to her first major appearance in the movie “Through The Fire,” produced by Emem Isong.

Reflecting on the experience, she said it taught her the importance of choosing roles carefully and protecting her brand.

In her words:
“Even as a newcomer, I was given a script to sleep with a dog. I turned it down immediately because I couldn’t start my career like that. Imagine your first movie being a dog scene—people would tag you forever. I didn’t want to be known as the actress who sleeps with dogs in films.

“So I rejected the script. But the moment I dropped it, several girls rushed to pick it up. I don’t think any of them are in the limelight today.”
