Adamawa: Youths Caught Red-Handed In Failed Attempt To Rob Man’s Phone

Three youths have been apprehended in Yola, Adamawa State, following a confrontation with a man over his phone. The individuals, identified as Hamza Ibrahim and Auwal Kolo, both 19 years old, and Mubarak Sadiq, who owns the tricycle involved, are known locally as Shila Boys—a group notorious for criminal activities in the area.

The suspects were using their tricycle, disguised as a passenger vehicle, to pick up unsuspecting individuals. On this occasion, they targeted a police officer, intending to steal his phone. During the attempt, the officer resisted, leading to a struggle.

The suspects admitted to the police that they had diverted their tricycle from the original route to Mahmud Ribadu Square, a secluded location known for recent criminal activity. Kolo reportedly reached into the officer’s pocket, tried to grab his phone, and threatened him when he resisted. The ensuing struggle caused the tricycle to veer off course, resulting in all three suspects falling onto the street.

Police quickly responded to the scene and arrested the suspects. SP Suleiman Nguroje, the Police Public Relations Officer, confirmed the arrests and stated that the suspects, who have confessed to their crime, will be formally charged in court.
