Adekunle Gold Makes Bombshell Revelation About His Marriage To Simi
Nigerian singer Adekunle Gold has revealed that he would not have married his wife, Simi, if she had the SS genotype, explaining that genotype compatibility was an important consideration for him before taking their relationship further.
The award-winning singer made the disclosure while speaking on the One54 Podcast, where he discussed sickle-cell awareness, family and his personal experience with genotype screening.
According to Bush Radio Academy, Adekunle Gold stressed the importance of people knowing their genotype before entering serious relationships or making decisions about having children. He encouraged couples to undergo appropriate medical screening and understand the potential genetic implications before starting a family.
The singer explained that he and Simi took genotype tests when they first met to establish whether they were medically compatible. According to him, the test showed that Simi is AA, which meant they did not face the genotype compatibility concern he was discussing.
Adekunle Gold said he would not have proceeded with the marriage if Simi had the SS genotype, noting that he considered the issue too important to overlook.
“There’s no way I would have married my wife Simi if she was sickle cell. The first thing we did when we met was a genotype test to know if we matched. If we didn’t, I wouldn’t have married her. She is AA,” he said.
The singer also used the opportunity to advocate greater awareness about sickle-cell disease and the importance of genotype screening. His comments formed part of a broader conversation about his personal experience with sickle cell, his family and his foundation’s efforts to support people affected by the condition.
Adekunle Gold has previously spoken about his own experience with sickle-cell disease and the work of his foundation, which provides healthcare support to people in Lagos. During the podcast, he said the foundation currently reaches hundreds of people through its healthcare initiatives.
