Adekunle Gold Speaks Out Amid Death Rumours, Makes Emotional Revelation About His Daughter

Nigerian singer Adekunle Gold has opened up about the legal action he took against a social media user who circulated false information claiming that his family had lost their daughter, Adejare Kosoko.

According to Bush Radio Academy, the singer discussed the incident during a recent appearance on the One54 Podcast, where he explained that while he is prepared to tolerate criticism and negative comments directed at him, he would not accept false reports involving his daughter.

Adekunle Gold said he chose to follow the appropriate legal channels after discovering the false report rather than confronting the individual personally.

The singer revealed that he reported the matter to the relevant authorities, after which the case was taken to court. According to him, the court sentenced the individual to two years in prison, with an option of paying a fine.

“I can take anything. Talking about me all day, I’m cool. I signed up for this, not my daughter,” Adekunle Gold said while recounting the incident.

He explained that he deliberately avoided taking matters into his own hands, stressing that he allowed the authorities and the judicial system to handle the situation.

The development followed a viral post falsely suggesting that Adekunle Gold and his wife, singer Simi, had lost their daughter. The social media user involved in the case was later convicted by the Federal High Court in Lagos after pleading guilty to charges including cyberbullying, cyberthreats and cyberharassment. The court imposed concurrent prison terms and also provided an option of a ₦1 million fine.

Reflecting on the wider issue, Adekunle Gold expressed concern over the growing spread of unverified information on social media. He noted that people can sometimes come across reports about themselves and genuinely wonder whether the claims are true.

The singer therefore called for some form of regulation on social media, arguing that the volume of false and harmful information circulating online has become increasingly troubling.

Adekunle Gold’s decision to pursue the matter through legal channels has also renewed discussions about online responsibility, cyberbullying and the consequences of spreading false information about public figures and their families.
