Adeleke Issues SOBERING Message Ahead Of Osun Poll: “Politics Should Never Cost A Life

Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has pledged to investigate the reported killings and other acts of violence associated with the electoral process following the August 15, 2026 governorship election.

Adeleke made the commitment while speaking with journalists in Osogbo, the state capital, on Friday. He expressed sympathy to the families of those who lost their lives in election-related violence and stressed that political differences should never result in the loss of human lives.

The governor said his administration would establish an independent commission of inquiry on Monday to investigate the circumstances surrounding the reported killings and other violent incidents.

According to him, the commission would make recommendations on appropriate action against anyone found responsible, regardless of their political affiliation or position.

Adeleke also promised that the state government would create a framework to support and compensate families who lost loved ones during the violence. He added that the victims would be appropriately honoured.

The governor urged residents to look beyond the election and work toward preserving peace, unity and stability across Osun State.

He said, “The Osun State Government expresses its deepest condolences to the families of all persons who have tragically lost their lives in incidents of violence during this election period.

“Every life lost is an Osun life. Politics should never cost anyone his or her life, irrespective of political affiliation.”

Adeleke Campaign Rejects Imumolen’s Endorsement

Meanwhile, the Imole Campaign Council has rejected the endorsement of APC governorship candidate Bola Oyebamiji by Christopher Imumolen, insisting that Imumolen does not represent the recognised leadership of the Accord Party.

The campaign council maintained that Maxwell Mgbudem, whom it identified as Accord’s National Chairman recognised by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), remains committed to supporting Adeleke’s re-election.

The council made its position known in a statement issued on Thursday by its spokesperson, Pelumi Olajengbesi, following Imumolen’s appearance at the APC mega rally in Osogbo.

Imumolen, who identified himself as Accord’s national chairman, had declared his support for Oyebamiji and called on members of the party in Osun to vote for the APC candidate in Saturday’s election.

However, in a statement titled “Accord Party Chairman Didn’t Endorse Oyebamiji,” the Adeleke campaign dismissed the declaration and accused the APC of misrepresenting Imumolen’s position within the Accord Party.
