Adeleke Under Fire As Joe Igbokwe Reveals What He Calls “Unbelievable Mistake
All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain Joe Igbokwe has criticised Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke over his decision to leave the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the Accord Party ahead of the governorship election.
Igbokwe described Adeleke’s defection as an “unbelievable mistake,” arguing that the governor would have been better off joining the ruling APC.
The APC chieftain made the comment in a post on his Facebook page on Monday.
Adeleke had previously left the PDP amid prolonged leadership disputes, factional disagreements and legal controversies within the party before joining Accord as he sought another term in office.
Reacting to the development, Igbokwe argued that Adeleke should have considered joining the APC, particularly because of what he described as President Bola Tinubu’s family ties to Osun State.
He wrote, “Governor Adeleke made an unbelievable mistake when he left PDP to the Accord Party instead of joining APC knowing fully well that PBAT has a family link with Osun State Nigeria.”
Igbokwe’s position comes amid similar criticism of Adeleke’s decision to abandon the PDP.
Former Special Adviser to the Senate President and public affairs analyst Kenny Okolugbo had also questioned the governor’s choice of Accord, arguing that the move could affect his chances of retaining support from traditional PDP voters.
Speaking on Arise Television on Sunday, Okolugbo said the PDP would remain on the ballot, meaning some of the party’s supporters could still vote for its candidate rather than Adeleke.
He said, “People will still vote for the PDP because the party is on the ballot, and he could lose some of those votes.”
Okolugbo further argued that Adeleke might have gained a stronger political advantage by joining the African Democratic Congress (ADC) instead.
He said, “If I were him, I would have left the PDP for the ADC because he would have had a greater advantage over the APC.
“I think he didn’t play that political move well.”
