In a notice issued on Monday, AEDC explained that the blackout was caused by a technical fault affecting the feeder responsible for supplying electricity to the impacted areas.

The affected locations include Utako, Wuye, Jabi, Airport, NJI, NARSDA, NABDA, Lugbe Shoprite, Riverpark Estate, War College, Dunamis, NIGCOMSAT, and Nigeria-Korea Model School. Other areas affected are Lugbe Primary, Zuma Steel, Kapwa Village, NIA Junior/Senior, Tipper Garage, Tudu Wada, Peace Village, Video Club, CRD, 1R, T-Pumpy Estate, New Site, Back of Dunamis, Jedo, and Forte Royal Estate.

Additionally, the outage extends to Aso Drive, NSA, NASS, NJC, FJC, Supreme Court, Wubassy Barracks, Army War College, Mambila Barracks, Yara Dua Barracks, DIA, Niger Barracks, Lungi & Agu Irosi Barracks, and surrounding areas.

In the statement, AEDC expressed regret over the power disruption and assured customers that a dedicated technical team is working diligently to restore power as soon as possible.

This latest outage follows a planned blackout announced weeks earlier by the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), which occurred in February during maintenance work on the 2x100MVA TR3 and TR4 transformers at the Apo 132/33kV Transmission Substation. The maintenance, carried out on February 22 and 23, resulted in a seven-hour power interruption in key areas, including the National Hospital, G2 Injection Station, Garki, Area 1, and Asokoro.

The TCN had stated that the outage was “unavoidable” as Abuja DisCo could not receive bulk power supply during the maintenance period.
