Abia Mourns: Tragic Accident Kills Police And Civil Defence Officers

The incident occurred on March 30, 2025, at approximately 6:10 PM on Bende Road when their patrol vehicle overturned while returning to base. The injured were rushed to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) in Umuahia, where one NSCDC officer was pronounced dead, and the others are currently receiving treatment.

The injured officers include CPL Achibere Paul, CPL Nkama Emmanuel, and PC Okibe, all of whom are under medical care. The firearms belonging to the personnel have been secured by Operation Crush Commander Lt. Ogar, and efforts are ongoing to recover the overturned vehicle.

In a separate incident, two officers from the Special Protection Unit (SPU) traveling in a Sienna vehicle from Aba to Abakaliki were involved in a fatal accident on the Ntigha section of the Aba-Port Harcourt Expressway.

The victims, identified as Akoh E. Benjamin and Uzoojike Victor, were confirmed dead at FMC Umuahia, while a civilian passenger remains in a coma. The bodies have been deposited at the FMC mortuary as investigations continue.
