Peseiro’s squad suffered a 2-1 defeat against the hosts in the final of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.
Nigeria took the lead through William Troost-Ekong’s header from a corner-kick in the 37th minute.
However, Cote d’Ivoire mounted a comeback after halftime, scoring goals through Franck Kessie and Sebastien Haller.
Peseiro conceded that his players failed to replicate their earlier performances in the tournament.
“Throughout this tournament, my players gave their best, but Cote d’Ivoire outperformed us in this match. We didn’t meet our usual standard,” Peseiro stated during his post-match press conference.
“Both individually and collectively, our performance fell short. Cote d’Ivoire demonstrated superior play. While we aimed for victory and the trophy, unfortunately, we fell short.
“I’m disappointed, as are my players. Our performance wasn’t up to par, but I can’t fault their effort. They gave their all in this tournament.
“In football, these outcomes occur. Sometimes, things don’t go as planned.”
