According to reports from ScoreNigeria, Chelle met with the federation’s technical committee in Abuja on Monday in a session described as direct and focused on what officials consider a realistic objective for the national team.

During the meeting, the Malian coach was urged to rejuvenate the squad following the disappointment of missing out on the 2026 FIFA World Cup. He has been encouraged to integrate new players capable of injecting fresh energy into the team.

Chelle is expected to release a 28-man squad list for AFCON 2025 later this week. Nigeria has been drawn into Group C alongside Tunisia, Tanzania, and Uganda, kicking off their campaign on 23 December against Tanzania. The Super Eagles finished as runners-up at the previous tournament in Côte d’Ivoire.

Meanwhile, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) has concluded a preparatory course for match officials selected for the 2025 AFCON in Cairo. The program brought together referees, assistant referees, VAR officials, and both technical and physical instructors to ensure they are fully prepared ahead of the competition.

CAF last week confirmed the selection of 73 officials for the tournament, including 28 referees, 31 assistant referees, and 14 VAR specialists.

The 2025 Africa Cup of Nations is scheduled to take place in Morocco from 21 December to 18 January.
