Tinubu voiced his hope that it would be Nigeria’s turn to lift the trophy, stating, “Awa Lokan.”
The president made these remarks at an event in Abuja while extending congratulations to Nigerians following the Super Eagles’ triumph over South Africa’s Bafana Bafana.
Tinubu remarked, “Congratulations once again on achieving victory just last night. It was a moment of joy for all of us as a united nation, and we are very hopeful that it’s our turn for the trophy, Awa Lokan.”
On Wednesday evening, the Super Eagles of Nigeria secured a 4-2 victory over their South African counterparts, advancing to the AFCON finals.
The match concluded with a 1-1 draw at the end of 120 minutes, leading to a penalty shootout.
With this win, the Super Eagles are poised to face Ivory Coast in the AFCON finals on Sunday.
