Speaking during a recent episode of the Entertainment & Lifestyle show, the 50-year-old icon reflected on the song’s double-edged impact on his career, describing it as both a blessing and a burden.

‘African Queen’ has been a very huge blessing — and e come turn to problem join for me. But I’m grateful for everything,” he said.

Released in 2004, African Queen remains one of the most celebrated love songs in Africa, earning 2Face international acclaim and making him the first African artist to win the BET, MTV Europe, and MOBO Awards.

Despite its success, the song has been dogged by controversy for over two decades.
The first major dispute came from Blackface, 2Face’s former bandmate in the defunct group Plantashun Boiz, who repeatedly accused him of stealing the song. 2Face has since clarified that African Queen was a collaborative effort but denied claims of theft.

The track resurfaced in public debate again after Billboard named it the “Greatest Afrobeats Song of All Time” in August 2025, reigniting discussions about its origins and legacy.
