As a result, many Nigerians are turning to road transport instead of flying. Recent checks reveal that Air Peace’s new fare of N200,000 is the highest among domestic airlines. In comparison, Aero offers tickets ranging from N94,000 to over N109,000, while Arik Air charges between N104,405 and N139,292. Ibom Air’s fares fall between N124,000 and N133,000.

The surge in airfares has left many travelers stranded at airports, struggling to find available seats, especially on the busy Lagos-Abuja and Abuja-Lagos routes.

An Air Peace official, who requested anonymity, attributed the fare increase to Nigeria’s worsening economic conditions. “When you break down the ticket prices, it’s clear that we’re struggling as an airline. The costs of running our business are skyrocketing,” she explained, citing high taxes that disproportionately affect the aviation sector.

Attempts to reach Air Peace’s Chief Operating Officer, Toyin Olajide, for comment were unsuccessful, as she did not respond to calls or messages.

Businessman Adeleke Aina, a frequent flyer, expressed his frustration with the rising fares. “With prices increasing daily without clear justification, I may have no choice but to switch to road transport,” he said. “This situation is unsustainable; fuel prices are outrageous, and the Federal Government seems indifferent to these issues. I’m concerned for the future of this country.
