Speaking during his inaugural address on Monday after officially assuming office as the 7th Governor of Ondo State, Aiyedatiwa paid heartfelt tribute to Akeredolu, describing him as a visionary leader dedicated to the state’s development.

He recalled Akeredolu’s prophetic declaration at the inauguration ceremony four years ago when he was sworn in for a second term, acknowledging that it played a role in shaping his eventual emergence as governor.

Aiyedatiwa lamented that Akeredolu was no longer alive to witness the realization of his words.

He stated, “I wish to express my profound gratitude to my immediate predecessor, our visionary leader, the late Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Odunayo Akeredolu, SAN, CON, who worked selflessly for the progress of Ondo State for nearly seven years before departing to join the Saints Triumphant.

“We must always remember this courageous leader who gave his all in service to our state and nation. His legacy remains a source of inspiration as we continue to build on the foundations he laid.

“I am especially grateful to him for choosing me as his Deputy and for his bold and prophetic words on this very podium four years ago. His declaration undoubtedly set the stage for my eventual succession as Governor.

“It pains me deeply that this great leader, who foresaw the future, is not here today to witness the fulfillment of what God spoke through him.

“May the gentle soul of Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Odunayo Akeredolu, SAN, CON, continue to rest in peace. Amen.”

Reflecting further, Aiyedatiwa described the moment as a defining chapter in Ondo State’s history, emphasizing the struggles of the past, the sacrifices of its heroes, and the resilience of its people.

“This moment holds great significance in our history. It reminds us of our past struggles, the sacrifices of our heroes, and the unwavering spirit of our people.

“As we celebrate this milestone, I pay special tribute to the founding fathers and former governors of our beloved state, whose contributions over the past 49 years have been instrumental in our growth and development.

“Their dedication, vision, and leadership have laid the foundation for the progress we enjoy today.”
