Akpabio made this appeal during a meeting with a delegation from the American Embassy in Nigeria, headed by chargé d’affaires David Greene, at the National Assembly complex in Abuja on Tuesday.
Akpabio acknowledged the United States’ role in promoting democracy and democratic values worldwide, recognizing that this mission sometimes demands sacrifices from Americans.
He urged the American government not to tire in its role as an elder brother because the world requires guidance from the oldest democracy.
“I have faith in American democracy, and I implore you to continue providing support to Nigeria and other nations as we progress on the path to democracy,” said Akpabio.
In his earlier remarks, Mr. Greene stated that his team was seeking opportunities for collaboration with the Nigerian Senate on various fronts.
