Akpabio made the statement on Wednesday night after accompanying Cross River North Senator Agom Jarigbe and Bauchi North Senator Kaila Samaila—both recent defectors from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)—to a meeting with President Tinubu at the State House in Abuja.

Speaking to reporters after the meeting, Akpabio said the lawmakers’ decision to join the APC was motivated by Tinubu’s economic reforms and commitment to national development.

He stated, “Jarigbe and Samaila are Mr. President’s children and supporters. The president is the father of the nation and a guiding figure for all political parties. Though they entered the Senate under different political platforms, they were inspired by the president’s policies, which have improved the economy and boosted national revenue, to join and contribute to building Nigeria. This move reflects patriotism—they are focused on who can lead Nigeria effectively, improve the country, and provide for its people, rather than which party is in power.”

Senator Jarigbe added that his defection stemmed from his conviction that President Tinubu is delivering tangible results.

He said, “I joined the APC because the president is performing exceptionally well, and I want to support him in delivering the dividends of democracy to our people.
