Akpabio and Wike conveyed their messages during a Thanksgiving Service organized in Rivers State’s Koroma Tai Local Government Area by Senator Barry Mpigi, who represents Rivers Southeast Senatorial District, to express gratitude for his electoral victory.
The event witnessed the presence of numerous dignitaries, including senators, members of the House of Representatives, ministers such as Dave Umahi and Heineken Lokpobiri, former ministers, and representatives from Akwa Ibom. The leaders emphasized the need for unity and support for President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
Wike acknowledged the perceived difficulty in the decisions made by President Tinubu but stressed their necessity to address longstanding issues. He urged citizens to be patient, emphasizing that the desired positive impacts on the economy wouldn’t materialize overnight.
The minister highlighted the tendency for people to quickly forget past incidents, pointing out that leaders had praised President Tinubu for not interfering in election-related matters shortly after court verdicts. He urged the public to maintain hope, citing positive developments in Abuja as a sign of better days ahead.
Wike expressed confidence in the unity within Rivers State, praising the Senate President for fostering a robust relationship between the National Assembly and the President. He commended the loyalty and achievements of Senator Mpigi, emphasizing the state’s uncommon unity where ruling and opposition parties coexist.
Akpabio employed an analogy, likening Nigeria’s economic situation inherited by President Tinubu to a pail filled with foam, disguising the small quantity of water beneath. He called for economic rejuvenation, expressing belief that President Tinubu’s policies would lead to a stronger nation.
Akpabio acknowledged the challenging economic conditions, asserting that patience was essential as the government worked towards solving deep-rooted issues. He urged Wike to find a successor in Ogoni land who could match his achievements, emphasizing loyalty and leadership.
