Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State has urged stakeholders in the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to prioritize gender inclusion ahead of the upcoming party congresses and local government elections. Speaking at a meeting in Uyo, Governor Eno emphasized the need for affirmative action to ensure fair representation of women in elective positions. He proposed that each senatorial district should nominate at least two female candidates for council chairperson positions, and that women should be supported as running mates in LGAs where male candidates are fielded. Governor Eno also highlighted his administration’s achievements over the past year, including the successful implementation of the ‘One Project Per LGA’ initiative aimed at addressing community needs. Projects under this initiative have been completed and inaugurated, with plans underway for a second phase focusing on healthcare infrastructure. He further mentioned advancements in Ibom Air, noting the imminent arrival of a new Airbus and ongoing efforts in training pilots and engineers. Additionally, his administration has constructed and handed over ARISE compassionate homes for vulnerable groups, with plans to deliver a total of 400 homes.

The meeting was attended by notable PDP figures such as Sen Emmanuel Ibokessien, Sen Effiong Bob, and Chief Ndueso Essien, among others, who pledged their support for the PDP and Governor Eno’s development agenda.
