Ibeno, an oil-rich area hosting numerous International Oil Companies (IOCs) such as ExxonMobil Nigeria, contributes about 75% of the state’s monthly revenue. Despite this, Archianga questioned why the local government area has been poorly treated regarding development.

In a statement obtained by DAILY POST in Uyo on Friday, Archianga noted that since 1999, Ibeno has had only four commissioners, with two appointed by Obong Arc. Victor Attah between 1999 and 2006. Currently, Ibeno lacks representation in both the State Executive Council and the State House of Assembly.

Archianga criticized the lack of infrastructure development, mentioning that from 1999 to 2006, no roads were constructed in Ibeno, despite the state’s overall developmental progress. He also highlighted the absence of potable water, with the last water project attempted in 1975 remaining incomplete.

He added that the terrain in Ibeno, rich in oil deposits, complicates access to clean drinking water, forcing residents to rely on polluted ponds. Under Governor Umo Eno’s administration, the One-Project per LGA initiative was introduced. While other local government areas have seen progress, Ibeno’s chosen project has yet to start, even as the second phase of projects has begun elsewhere.

Archianga expressed disappointment that despite the Akwa Ibom State Government awarding road contracts in other areas, Ibeno was excluded from these projects. The local government’s only hospital, a Cottage Hospital built during the Godswill Akpabio administration, remains poorly equipped and neglected, despite promises of renovation from the previous administration under Udom Gabriel Emmanuel.

The monarch reaffirmed that Ibeno is a crucial part of the Akwa Ibom Project and deserves better treatment. He urged Governor Eno to work on improving relations with Ibeno and fostering unity within the community.
