Themed “From Camps to Justice and Communities,” this year’s summit seeks to deepen national dialogue on ending Nigeria’s prolonged insurgency and insecurity by prioritizing justice for victims and accelerating the reintegration of displaced persons.
Prof. Dakas C.J. Dakas (SAN), Chairman of the Nigerian Law Reform Commission, will deliver the keynote address. Other dignitaries expected at the event include the immediate past Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Christopher Musa (rtd); Senator Sunday Marshall Katung (Kaduna South); and David Snelling, Second Secretary of the British High Commission in Nigeria.
Speaking at a press briefing in Kaduna on Thursday, the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of the House of Justice, Gloria Ballason, said the summit’s theme reflects the urgent need to shift focus from temporary humanitarian relief to long-term justice and community rebuilding.
“This year’s event is particularly timely, as it comes amid growing concerns about sovereignty and foreign intervention in addressing Nigeria’s security crises,” Ballason said. “To rebuild meaningfully, we must prioritize justice and the resettlement of displaced victims.”
She lamented that persistent conflicts in Nigeria’s North-East and North-West have displaced millions, destroyed communities, and left victims in prolonged uncertainty.
“Beyond feeding camps or erecting shelters, there is a moral and constitutional duty to restore the dignity of victims through justice,” she emphasized. “Who speaks for those whose lands have been lost, whose homes were burned, and whose families remain missing? The time to rebuild and restore justice is now.”
The summit will gather policymakers, defence officials, legal experts, humanitarian actors, and development partners to examine systemic gaps and develop actionable frameworks for transitional justice, compensation, and sustainable reintegration.
Panel sessions will feature representatives from the National Human Rights Commission, the National Commission for Refugees, Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons, and international agencies.
According to the organisers, the Orange Ball Banquet — a traditional highlight of the event — will foster collaboration among advocates of human rights, justice, and civic engagement across Africa.
“At a time when our country faces deep security and displacement challenges, this summit reminds us that justice is not an abstraction — it is about people, accountability, and hope,” Ballason added.
She further noted that Prof. Osinbajo’s participation underscores a growing national commitment to justice-driven peacebuilding and governance.
Founded in 2010, the House of Justice has served as a civic hub for human rights advocacy, legal literacy, and access to justice. Over the past decade, its annual summits have brought together jurists, lawmakers, activists, and international partners to deliberate on Nigeria’s democratic and social challenges.
The 2025 summit marks ten years of sustained engagement in advancing accountability, transitional justice, and community rebuilding across the nation.
