Prof. Yilwatda holds a B.Eng. in Electrical/Electronic Engineering from the Federal University of Agriculture, Makurdi (1992), and both a Master’s and Ph.D. in Digital Systems Engineering and Artificial Intelligence from ATBU Bauchi and the University of Nigeria, Nsukka. He has spent over 25 years in teaching and research, particularly in software engineering and renewable energy technologies, making him a vital player in technological innovation and sustainable development. As the Director of ICT at the Federal University of Agriculture, Makurdi, for 12 years, Yilwatda played a key role in reforming ICT and financial management systems, further contributing to national development.
His consultancy work spans a range of international development projects, including serving as a lead consultant for UNICEF’s alternative energy sources for cold chain systems from 2005 to 2012, as well as working with the Energy Commission of Nigeria and the UNDP. One of his standout achievements is his role in deploying eco-friendly electricity through the PAWA 774 project, which provided sustainable energy to remote communities.
Yilwatda also has significant experience in Nigeria’s electoral processes, having served as an INEC Commissioner since 2017. He championed voting rights for Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) and contributed to the operational framework for IDP voting, taking part in key elections in states like Anambra, Kogi, and Osun. In addition to his technical expertise, he was the APC gubernatorial candidate for Plateau State in the 2023 elections, demonstrating his strong political involvement and commitment to public service.
With a wealth of knowledge and practical experience in both engineering and public administration, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda’s appointment signals Tinubu’s commitment to addressing humanitarian issues with innovative solutions aimed at reducing poverty across Nigeria.
