According to the indigenes, under the banner of the Emure Ekiti Good Governance Advocacy Group, the property located at Irewolede Estate, Ado Ekiti, was purchased by the council in 2008 for N12.5 million but was sold for N8.5 million on March 23, 2024. They allege that the sale was conducted fraudulently by LG Chairman Tosin Adedayo.

A letter dated August 2, 2022, addressed to the President of the Emure Ekiti Progressive Association, claims that the actual sale price was N85 million, not the N8.5 million stated by the chairman. The letter, signed by Ademola Abegunde, the group’s chairman, argues that the sale was unauthorized and conducted without proper transparency or due process. It further alleges that the property was sold to a long-time political ally of Adedayo for political gain.

The indigenes’ investigation reportedly uncovered that the property was sold in two transactions: an initial payment of N48 million and a balance of N36 million, both paid into an account managed by the Head of Local Government Administration.

In response, Chairman Adedayo refuted the allegations, asserting that the sale followed due process. He explained that the decision to sell the property was made in an executive meeting and that a valuer was engaged to assess the property. The proceeds from the sale were used to purchase another house for LG officials, replacing rental payments previously made.
