Human rights lawyer Mike Ozekhome emphasized the importance of granting El-Rufai a fair hearing amidst the ongoing probe into his administration. Speaking on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily, Ozekhome highlighted that while the Kaduna House of Assembly committee had indicted El-Rufai on corruption allegations and made recommendations, it was essential to afford him the opportunity to respond to these charges……….. “I’m not someone who predicts the future or foresees outcomes,” Ozekhome stated. “But regardless of the proceedings, El-Rufai must have his right to a fair hearing. The assembly has made recommendations, but these must be balanced with El-Rufai’s rights. Whether he challenges the indictment in court or participates in the process, fairness demands that he has the chance to defend himself.”
Ozekhome further stressed that any legal process involving allegations with criminal implications must ensure direct involvement of the accused, rather than proxy indictments, to uphold principles of justice.
