Alonso Delivers Huge Chelsea Injury Update Ahead Of Brentford Showdown

Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso has provided a positive injury update ahead of his side’s Premier League clash with Brentford, confirming that no player has been ruled out of Friday’s encounter.

According to Bush Radio Academy, Alonso said Chelsea would make their final decisions on the squad after completing their last training session before the match.

Speaking during his pre-match press conference, the Spanish manager revealed that Joao Pedro is in contention to return to action, while decisions on Reece James and Moises Caicedo would be made closer to kick-off.

“In terms of injuries and the squad, we are having the last training session today. Nobody is ruled out for Friday. We will wait until tomorrow to make the final decision,” Alonso said.

On Joao Pedro, Alonso played down suggestions that the Brazilian forward was affected by his omission from the Brazil squad, insisting that the player is focused on having a productive season with Chelsea.

“No, he has moved on from the summer, the World Cup; he has a great desire to have a great season. The summer is far away now,” he said.

Alonso also explained that Reece James’ absence from Tuesday’s action was a tactical decision and did not necessarily rule him out of the Brentford encounter.

“No, it was just a decision for Tuesday. Tomorrow, we will decide,” the manager stated.

Regarding Moises Caicedo, Alonso indicated that the midfielder is also edging closer to a return, although a final decision would be made after training.

“He’s getting closer and tomorrow we will make the final decision,” Alonso added.

The update provides Chelsea with renewed optimism ahead of their Matchday 5 fixture against Brentford, with Alonso set to assess the condition of his players before naming the final squad.

The other Premier League fixtures for Matchday 5 include Tottenham Hotspur against Aston Villa, Everton versus Ipswich Town, Brighton against Arsenal, Newcastle United versus Hull City and Nottingham Forest against Coventry City on Saturday.

Sunday’s fixtures will see Bournemouth take on Liverpool, Manchester City face Sunderland, Leeds United host Crystal Palace, while Fulham will welcome Manchester United.
