Ambassadorial Shake-Up: Senate Says Nominees Cleared—For Now
The Senate has clarified that it has not received any formal petitions against the newly submitted ambassadorial nominees.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Speaking with Sunday Punch, Senate spokesperson Yemi Adaramodu acknowledged that although there have been public reactions to the list, the Senate can only respond to officially documented complaints routed through the appropriate channels.
He explained that the screening exercise has already been referred to the Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs, which has been given one week to conduct its assessment and relay its findings.
“As of now, we have not received any petition against any nominee. The list was only read today (Thursday). If any petition is submitted, the committee will forward it to the Senate,” Adaramodu stated.
He stressed that the committee’s scrutiny is not the final stage of the process. Once its review is completed, the full Senate will have the opportunity to question each nominee before any final decision is taken.
“After the committee completes its work, it will present its report to plenary, where the entire Senate will consider it. Screening at the committee level does not conclude the process. The Senate still reserves the authority to approve, reject, or amend the committee’s recommendations,” he added.
Adaramodu reaffirmed that the Senate would take action should any credible allegations or petitions be filed against any nominee.
“It is ultimately the responsibility of the committee of the whole, chaired by the Senate President, to uphold, reject, or sustain the Foreign Affairs Committee’s report,” he concluded.
