Osawaru, who represents Egor Constituency, was summoned following viral videos showing her and the singer in a heated public dispute, which later spilled onto an Instagram Live session hosted by media personality Daddy Freeze.
During Monday’s plenary, the Assembly instructed Osawaru to appear before its Ethics and Privileges Committee within seven working days to respond to allegations of misconduct.
In an interview with Sunday Punch, Eric stressed that while the House would ensure her constituents continue to receive proper representation, any leniency would depend on her attitude during the committee proceedings.
“She represents a constituency, and no one will deny her constituents their voice. But if she indeed committed some of the acts mentioned, shows remorse, and chooses a better course, the House can decide to forgive her,” Eric stated.
He added that the committee’s recommendations would be submitted to the full House before any final decision is made.
“The committee’s report is not final; it will go back to the floor of the House for debate. Depending on the circumstances, the House might exercise leniency, but we do not want to pre-empt the report,” he explained.
Eugene Inegbeboh, chairman of the Ethics and Privileges Committee, confirmed that the panel is conducting a fact-finding exercise.
“The House has directed her to appear. She recently gave birth, but we expect her to come and present her case,” Inegbeboh told Punch.
